1. What this site is, and is not
trean.ca is operated by Trean Health Inc. Medical care is provided by Trean Clinical Services Inc., an independent medical practice with its own terms.
Using this website does not create a clinician–patient relationship. That begins only when the practice accepts you as a patient and a clinician agrees to provide care.
Nothing on this website is medical advice, a diagnosis, or a recommendation for you personally. The library articles and tools are general education written for everyone reading them.
2. Not for emergencies
If you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. Do not use this site, secure messaging, or any Trean tool to report an emergency. We do not monitor messages continuously and cannot respond to urgent problems.
3. Eligibility
- You must be 18 or older.
- You must be a resident of Ontario and physically located in Ontario at the time you receive care. Our clinicians are licensed in Ontario only, and the rules governing virtual care differ between provinces.
- You must give accurate and complete information. Incomplete or inaccurate information can lead to unsafe care.
- You may not use another person's account or let anyone use yours.
4. Treatment is never guaranteed
Completing an eligibility check, an intake form or a consultation does not entitle you to any particular treatment or prescription. A licensed clinician decides what is appropriate, and may decide that no treatment is appropriate or that you would be better served elsewhere. Assessment fees, where they apply, are payable whether or not treatment is offered.
5. Fees
- Your assessment by a physician is an insured service billed to OHIP where you hold a valid Ontario health card. If you do not, the assessment is uninsured and charged at the rate published on our pricing page.
- Services not insured by OHIP are private pay. Prices are published and confirmed with you before anything is booked.
- Medication is dispensed and billed by your pharmacy. Laboratory testing is covered by OHIP where medically indicated; where it is not, the laboratory bills you directly and we will tell you before it is ordered.
- We add no margin to medication or laboratory testing and take no commission on either.
- Programme fees are refundable in full if you cancel before your first appointment. After that we refund the unused portion pro rata, less the value of any testing or consultations already provided.
- On-site testing booked separately is refundable in full if you cancel at least 24 hours before the appointment.
- If we decline to treat you after an assessment, the assessment fee is not refunded because the assessment was provided. Any programme fee paid in advance is refunded in full.
- If we end your care for a reason that is not your fault, we refund the unused portion in full.
- Refunds are made to the original payment method within 10 business days.
- Nothing in this section affects your rights under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
6. Your trainer
If you involve a trainer, they receive only what you expressly consent to share. Trainers are not clinicians. They do not diagnose, recommend treatment or prescribe, and they are not bound by health privacy law. Any training advice is theirs, not ours. Partner gyms are not medical providers, pay us nothing, and receive nothing from us.
7. Wearable and self-reported data
Consumer wearables are not medical devices and are not licensed as such by Health Canada. Data you choose to share is one input among many, is not a diagnosis, and is never acted on automatically. No score, threshold or algorithm makes any decision about your care.
8. Acceptable use
- Do not misuse the site, attempt unauthorised access, or interfere with its operation.
- Do not copy, scrape or republish our content without permission.
- Do not submit anything unlawful or anything you do not have the right to submit.
- Do not post identifying information about our staff or clinicians on third-party review platforms. Direct complaints to us.
9. Intellectual property
The content of this site, including the library articles and tools, belongs to Trean Health Inc. or is used with permission. You may read it and share links to it. You may not reproduce it commercially without our written consent.
10. Limitation of liability
This section limits the liability of Trean Health Inc. only. It does not limit, and is not intended to limit, the professional liability of any clinician or of Trean Clinical Services Inc. Nothing here affects your rights in respect of clinical care.
What we are responsible for. Operating this website and platform with reasonable care and skill. If we fail to do that and you suffer loss as a direct result, we are responsible for that loss.
What we are not responsible for. To the extent the law allows, Trean Health Inc. is not liable for:
- indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill;
- interruption, delay or unavailability of the website or platform, including where caused by a third-party provider;
- the acts or omissions of a trainer, gym, pharmacy, laboratory or other third party you choose to involve;
- any decision you make on the basis of general information published on this website;
- loss arising from inaccurate or incomplete information you give us.
Cap. Where we are liable, our total liability for all claims arising in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of the amount you paid Trean Health Inc. in that period and CAD $500.
What cannot be limited. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, for a breach of your rights under Ontario's Consumer Protection Act, 2002, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. If any part of this section is unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it. The courts of Ontario have jurisdiction.
12. Changes
We may update these terms. The current version is posted here with its effective date. Continued use after a change means you accept the update.
